to each his own...

Dear South African Cool Kids

Here is a Question for you?

"Why do you wear self advertising t-shirts...?"

As I was out shopping today I saw the most amusing t-shirts, and then there was a really really bad one stating

"SLUT, cpme and get me"

I mean like who would wear that? Excuse me if i am wrong about this, but really, how is that not Self advertising...

Wearing that, in my opinion , is the same as almost wearing nothing...

Anyways, as I was strolling along i saw another t-shirt stating

"I want love, please help?"

I was really surprised at this...

What's the people thinking designing these prints?

I know it's each person for themselves and all that jazz but does anyone really want to be that superficial?

Okay so Enough bitching and moaning for the day, lets party...

peace and love
me

This is my lyrics for today....
Listen and Enjoy...
Peace

Black Sabbath - War Pigs
(my old school rock melody that gets me rock and rollin before any party)

Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
Evil minds that plot destruction,
sorcerers of death's construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning.
Death and hatred to mankind,
poisoning their brainwashed minds...Oh lord yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor

Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait `till their judgement day comes, yeah!

Now in darkness, world stops turning,
as you hear the bodies burning.
No more war pigs of the power,
hand of god has struck the hour.
Day of judgement, god is calling,
on their knees the war pigs crawling.
Begging mercy for their sins,
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings...Oh lord, yeah!

Oppikoppi 2011: unknown brothers

So my writer's block has finally passed, post number two for today...

I think its something to do with the fact that the best and most insane weekend of my year have left its mark, yet again...

On a farm, somewhere up north, near the tiny town of Northam, Limpopo, South Africa, a few people come together each year for an experience that leaves them breathless and crying for more...
Okay who am i Kidding...

18 000 Rock and Roll children storm up to this farm filled with thorns to live more in one weekend than they do the rest of the year....

This year me and my wonderful sister decided that Wednesday, which is "klein Saterdag", is part of the weekend and that's when we rolled through into the territory of "unknown Brothers"

Filling my small little Corsa Lite with mattresses and liqueur we rolled through Rustenburg'sMcDonald's on the way up north, almost forgetting a few things like food and such but we had the bare necessities to survive (boots, boobs, and tequila for those sunrise tequila specials) .

With in five minutes of setting up campsite, dust already covered us, but who cares if your at the only place you can be free from every little worry in life.

The first two days are mostly blurred up into one word "AWESOME" and although i am not proud to say that I missed one of the best bands on Friday < Southern Gypsy Queen> i still loved every moment of it...

The Saturday there was one little act that I have never missed out on at Oppikoppi... Albert Frost. He is always a killer at "kamakastig land"... and this year together with Rob Nagel was yet again one of my highlights... if you missed him be sure to catch his blues-y tunes next year because he is the Oppikoppi legend without a doubt.

From Bittereinder to Van Coke kartel the local talent definitely rocked the thorns out of my socks and although i would love to see big international bands in my lifetime, Oppikoppi is one of the places that i dont give a damn about the international acts... if you give me a show like the David Kramer 30 years tribute show again I will be at peace...

One of my discoveries in local music this year at the Festival was a few kids from Cape Town who absolutely let me get the chance to Rock and Roll my sorrows away ... They are known as Saintfearless and with a lovely rock and roll/dance vibe, they have to be watched for future stardom... google, facebook and myspace them if you have the guts... come on i dare you! Listen to the "Tango Tango" song and you will kick yourself for not catching them at koppi

Anyways the weekend left me with whiplash so bad that I'm still recovering, but there ain't no cure like a shot or two of Jose Cuervo Gold...

Okay, so I'm gonna get my party on...

Rock on kiddos

ps. sorry for lack of capitals and punctuation but thats how i role!

Under the Tuscan Sun...

You close your eyes and suddenly six months has passed...

i had so many drafts in this blog but never had time to finish one draft fully... so here I am again "met my rooirok voor jou deur" trying to write while i have time...

about 3 months ago before I left my true homeland, South Africa, for the sunny beaches of Italy, i thought i would not feel the winter breezes this year... It sounded amazing, one whole year of summer, but as I landed back at Oliver Tambo International, the icy cold breeze blew me straight into reality...

I loved summer in Italy, but as I reached Florence, 3/4 into my journey, the Tuscan sun burnt 40 degrees into my skin and I longed for a swimming pool or the ocean, i realised how priveledged we Pretoria/South African folk are...

We have great summer weather and although the winter is cold... Its no where near a European Winter Most of us have a swimming pool or a friend with a swimming pool nearby... and the ultimate plus point of our beautiful "snorcity" is that we have an amazing Rock and Roll scene and bars...

and its cheaper than cheap...

Where we bitch and moan about booze prices rising, the folk up in the northern hemisphere pay 30 bucks or more for one can of Heineken...

So i am sitting in front of this piece of technology freezing my ass of on one of the weirdest days in my weather history, a day filled with "haalstorms" and thunder while we are only in the middle of august... And I am loving it....

Thanx to tw0 months in Italy (more stories to follow) to make me realize that this is my true home...

peace be da journey kids
